Orban said the situation around the Ukrainian conflict has changed

The situation in Ukraine has changed and everyone started talking about peace despite the fact that the Hungarian peacekeeping mission failed. This was reported by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on December 22 on the Hirado TV channel.
He specified that the peacekeeping mission could not be considered a success because of the fact that the original goals were not met. At the same time, according to Orban, many countries have started talking about the beginning of a "new world."
"If six months ago, when we assumed the presidency of the EU Council, it was practically forbidden to talk about peace, now everyone is talking about it. That's how the situation has changed," Orban said.
He also said that the overall world picture remains in a "deplorable" state, but according to Orban, the situation may change after US President-elect Donald Trump takes office.
Earlier on December 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during the "Results of the Year" that what is needed in Ukraine is not a ceasefire, but a long-term peace with guarantees. The Russian leader pointed out that the ceasefire allows the enemy to retrain its manpower and entrench itself in positions.
He also noted that the Russian Federation is ready to conduct a dialog on Ukraine without preconditions, but on the basis of the Istanbul agreements and realities on the ground. The Russian side is ready to sign peace agreements with any legitimate authorities in Kiev, but the current Ukrainian authorities are illegitimate, Putin said.
Before that, on November 29, the Foreign Intelligence Service pointed to NATO's desire to freeze the conflict in Ukraine in order to restore the AFU. It was noted that the West may plan to use this to rebuild the Ukrainian army and prepare for a future offensive.
The last round of talks took place in Istanbul on March 29, 2022. They lasted about three hours. Later, Kiev officially refused contacts with Moscow. On October 4 of the same year, the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on the impossibility of holding talks with Putin was put into effect.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
