- The head of the Kamchatka region instructed to check all circumstances of the incident with An-2
Governor of Kamchatka region Vladimir Solodov during the operative meeting instructed the regional Ministry of Transport to check all the circumstances of the incident with the An-2 airplane in order to exclude further dangerous factors during flights. The corresponding statement was published on December 23 on the website of the administration of the head of the region.
"From each incident it is necessary to draw very serious conclusions and conduct a showdown. I ask the regional Ministry of Transport in cooperation with aviation authorities - with Rosaviatsia and others who are investigating - to assess airlines for flight safety," the press service quotes Solodov as saying.
The governor noted that it is also necessary to conduct repeated checks of the equipment with radio beacons, which in the case of the An-2 airplane allowed crew members and a passenger to survive.
The disappearance of the An-2 plane became known on December 19. Later, the airplane received a signal about the emergency landing, and a ground group of rescuers went to the alleged place of its commission.
Minister of Emergency Situations of the Kamchatka region Sergei Lebedev reported on December 22 that the previously missing An-2 plane had been found. He noted that people were evacuated by Mi-8 helicopter to Milkovo. Rosaviatsia spokesman Artem Korenyako specified that the An-2 with two crew members and a passenger was found near Tundrovaya Mountain. "Izvestia" published footage of the rescue of the pilots and passenger An-2.
A criminal case on violation of the rules of operation of air transport hasbeen instituted. The head of the Milkovsky district of the Kamchatka region Nikolai Sepko said that the probable cause of the emergency landing of the An-2 airplane was icing. According to him, it led to the failure of instruments.
A passenger and two crew members of the plane told Izvestia that at the moment of landing due to heavy fog it was not visible where the plane was landing. The instruments also failed and they had to navigate by pre-wings. According to the men, they had small supplies of food with them, which helped them survive for more than two days. They also tried not to leave the aircraft because of the snow and wind, and dug a hole under the airplane's wing to sleep.
