Russia has launched production of prototype pseudo-satellites. These are stratospheric drones of the airplane type, which are similar in their tasks to orbital spacecraft, but operate at a much lower altitude. Therefore, the cost of launching and operating them is lower.

"The system is designed for non-stop flight for a month or more. The aircraft will be equipped with four electric motors that utilize solar energy. Solar batteries are installed on the upper surface of the wing, due to which the drone in flight will store energy during the day and spend it at night," the head of the project, executive director of Stratolink Nicholas Oxman told Izvestia.

According to him, according to the project, the mass of a full-size stratospheric aircraft will be 315 kg, the wingspan - 40 m, and the speed of cruising flight - 120-140 km / hr. At the same time, the two prototypes put into production are made on a scale of 1:5.

The specialist explained that the pseudo-satellites will help to quickly deploy communication and navigation systems in areas of natural disasters or during search and rescue operations. They will also provide communication and internet at temporary sites remote from infrastructure. For example, shift camps or field expeditions.
