On December 23, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on the exploits of Russian army servicemen in the zone of the special military operation (SMO).

The ministry noted that junior sergeant Andrei Amagzaev was carrying out tasks to guard and defend the positions of Russian troops on an important section of the front line. When the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attempted an offensive accompanied by artillery fire on the positions of the Russian troops, the serviceman conducted aimed fire from small arms at the advancing enemy.

Despite the massive fire Amagzaev successfully held his defensive position, destroying one ATV and Ukrainian fighters.

The Defense Ministry also noted the merits of Lieutenant Ivan Anoshchenko, who as part of a unit was carrying out a combat mission to protect and defend a line of defense near one of the settlements.

While on duty at an observation post, Anoshchenko detected three enemy FPV drones that were heading towards the positions of Russian troops. Then the serviceman used an anti-roon gun, suppressing the control channels and landing the enemy drones.

He also detected the explosive devices installed on the UAVs and, despite the threat to his life, disarmed the explosive devices. This avoided casualties among the personnel of the unit, which further contributed to successful offensive actions.

Earlier, on December 22, it was reported that the units of the group of troops "West" liberated the village of Lozovaya in Kharkiv region. The military also repelled six counterattacks by enemy assault units.

On December 21, the Russian Defense Ministry pointed out that servicemen of the ZU-23 anti-aircraft gun of the Zapad group of troops destroyed reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the AFU. During the firing operation, the unit destroyed reconnaissance drones of the Ukrainian militants "Furia" and "Leleka-100".

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
