Germany should start preparing for the threat from Russia and stop ignoring it. This was stated by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius on December 22.

"We must prepare ourselves so that we can confidently confront [Russian President Vladimir] Putin's threat. If we ignore the threat, it will become bigger, not smaller," he noted in a conversation with German newspaper Die Welt.

Pistorius specified that a Russian attack on NATO is not expected now, but such a possibility cannot be ruled out in a few years.

In addition, the minister emphasized that the Russian Federation produces more weapons and ammunition in a few months than all EU countries do in a year.

"Starting from 2029 or 2030, Putin could arm himself in such a way that Russia would be in a position to attack NATO," he added.

Earlier on December 20, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said that NATO was preparing for an armed conflict with Russia. Glushko noted that the Russian side takes into account these risks in military planning and consistently adheres to the course of avoiding a direct clash, in particular, demonstrating its military capabilities.

Prior to that, on November 25, the head of the alliance's military committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, said that NATO is discussing the possibility of launching preventive strikes against Russia in case of a conflict with it by the alliance countries. It was specified that in case of a hypothetical attack, the alliance should try to strike with high-precision means to hit the launchers in the Russian Federation.

Commenting on this statement, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called it absolutely irresponsible. According to him, such statements by politicians are aimed at attracting public attention.

The West regularly stirs up hysteria among the citizens of their countries, warning of an allegedly imminent war with Russia. At the same time, the Russian leader has repeatedly stated that there is nothing of the sort in the country's plans.
