Pavel Klimov, a retired lieutenant colonel of the USSR KGB, one of the participants in the 1979 assault on the residence of Afghan leader Hafizullah Amin, has died. This was reported on December 22 by the council of the international association of veterans of the anti-terror unit "Alpha".
"On the 73rd year of life retired Lieutenant Colonel Pavel Yurievich Klimov died suddenly," - stated in a message posted on the website of the organization.
Pavel Klimov was born on September 15, 1941 in the city of Khimki, Moscow region. He worked in the state security agencies, in 1974, after careful selection, he was enrolled in the first composition of the group "A" of the KGB of the USSR. He was a participant in the storming of the Taj-Bek Palace - the residence of Afghan dictator Hafizullah Amin in December 1979, during which he received shrapnel wounds in the abdomen, lost a lot of blood, but survived.
