Povetkin resigned as deputy governor of the Vologda Oblast

Olympic boxing champion Alexander Povetkin said on Sunday, December 22, that he is resigning from the post of deputy governor of the Vologda region.

"Dear people of Vologda! Thank you for accepting me on their land. Our common path though was not long, but I hope that I managed to ignite in you a spark of patriotism, to convey the importance of sports and love for the motherland," he wrote in his Telegram channel.

Povetkin said he now wants to focus on home and family.

Povetkin was appointed deputy governor of the region on May 14. He was in office for a little over seven months. During his work, he was responsible for issues related to the patriotic education of young people and attracting residents of the region to a healthy lifestyle.
