The Houthis claimed the destruction of a US F/A-18 fighter jet over the Red Sea

Yemeni Armed Forces spokesman Yahya Saria said on Sunday, December 22, that Yemeni Ansar Allah (Houthis) forces had shot down a US Navy F/A-18 fighter jet the previous day while attacking the aircraft carrier Harry Truman in the Red Sea.
"An F/A-18 was shot down while the opponents tried to counter Yemeni drones and missiles," his Telegram feed said.
Saria noted that their attack caused most of the enemy's warplanes to leave Yemeni airspace to defend the attacked aircraft carrier in the Red Sea.
Also, the spokesman of the movement assured that the Houthis repelled the enemy's attack on Yemen and forced the aircraft carrier Harry Truman to abandon its position in the Red Sea after their missile, sea and air attack.
The previous day, an American F/A-18 was indeed shot down near the Red Sea, but CBS News, citing US Central Command (CENTCOM), reported that the fighter jet was hit by friendly fire from a US Navy missile cruiser.
On the same day, it was reported that a massive airstrike was carried out on Yemen's capital Sanaa. According to the Kan state broadcaster, the attack was carried out by the international anti-terrorist coalition led by the US. Later, the Central Command of the U.S. Armed Forces reported that the targets were a missile depot and an operational center of the Houthis.
Prior to that, on December 16, the U.S. Central Command of the U.S. Armed Forces said that an airstrike was carried out on the building of the Houthi Ministry of Defense in the city of Sanaa. The facility hit by the airstrike was the center of coordination of the Houthi operations.
The Houthis began striking ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden since last November to protest Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip. On the night of Jan. 12, in response to their actions, the U.S. and Britain launched an attack on Houthi targets in Yemen. The White House said the strikes on movement-controlled areas of the country were defensive in nature. It was also claimed at the time that the strikes were carried out to protect international vessels.
