Canadian figure skater, Olympic champion in pairs skating Megan Duhamel said on December 22 that she considers the decision of the International Skating Union (ISU) to allow Russians to qualify for the Olympic Games-2026 absolutely fair.

She noted that she had carefully familiarized herself with all the criteria and rules for the admission of athletes to the competition, Sport-Express specifies .

"I see that this is to some extent a fair decision. I'm not sure which athletes will be able to qualify, given all the eligibility criteria. But I'm fine with it," - quotes the athlete "AllProSport".

At the same time, the Canadian recognized that the ISU because of its eligibility rules really made it difficult for Russian athletes to participate in the competition.

Earlier, on December 21, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that national sports federations should continue to work on the return of Russian athletes to world competitions. He emphasized the need to return Russian athletes to international competitions as soon as possible in order not to lose time for athletes, especially young ones, who may end their careers before they can prove themselves on the world stage.

December 20, ISU allowed athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in qualifying for the Olympic Games 2026 in Italy in a neutral status. It was specified that the decision applies to competitions in speed skating, figure skating and short track. At the same time, Russian figure skaters will not be allowed to participate in the team tournament.

Commenting on this, Russian Sports Minister and ROC President Mikhail Degtyarev said that such a decision is a significant breakthrough, bringing closer to a full return to the international sports arena.
