Russian President Vladimir Putin has started the ceremony of opening air and road infrastructure facilities in the regions. The head of state takes part in it on Sunday, December 22, via video link.

"Today is a day off, Sunday, but we have gathered nevertheless to give a start to the work of a number of new objects of Russia's air and highway infrastructure. A celebratory event, you might say. And this is yet another evidence that the development of the country's transportation framework, our regions, is going on consistently and continuously," Putin said at the beginning of the event.

He thanked the specialists for solving such important tasks and noted the good pace of development of Russia's road network and key highways.

In particular, the President pointed out the high demand for the modern section of the M-12 highway from Moscow to Kazan, which was opened last December. According to the head of state, more than 26 million drivers have already traveled along it and more than 70 million tons of cargo have been transported. According to the plan, this highway will be further developed in the direction of Yekaterinburg, Tyumen and further to the east.

Within the framework of the current ceremony, the head of state will give a start to traffic on the highway A-289 Krasnodar - Slavyansk-on-Kuban - Temryuk - highway A-290 Novorossiysk - Kerch.

Bypasses of the village of Malye Vyazemy on the Central Ring Road in the Moscow region, Nizhnekamsk and Naberezhnye Chelny and five settlements in Bashkiria are also being put into operation. In addition, Putin will participate in the opening of international airports in Magadan (Sokol), Cheboksary and Stavropol (Shpakovskoye).

Earlier, on December 12, the Russian government approved a plan for the construction of new federal toll roads until 2030. The total amount of funds for the facilities will increase by 20% - from 877 billion to 1.052 trillion rubles.

Prior to that, on December 5, Putin called the improvement in the condition of roads one of the most notable results that Russians believe have been achieved during the implementation of national projects.
