FT reported on Trump team's desire to pull the U.S. out of WHO

The team of US President-elect Donald Trump wants to achieve the country's withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO) on the day of the inauguration of the Republican. This was reported by the Financial Times newspaper on December 22, citing sources.
"Members of the Trump team told experts about their intention to announce their withdrawal from the global structure in the field of health starting with the inauguration of the elected President on January 20," - stated in the material.
It is noted that in this case, WHO will lose a significant part of funding, since in 2022 and 2023, the United States provided about 16% of its budget. At the same time, the ability of the organization to respond to crises like the coronavirus pandemic may deteriorate.
Ashish Jha, a former COVID-19 coordinator in the Joe Biden administration, told the publication that Trump's team views such plans and the choice of date as a symbolic move. He said some of the Republican's supporters favored reforming WHO instead of withdrawal, but another group won.
In 2020, during his previous presidential term, Trump accused the WHO of ineffectively fighting the coronavirus and influence from China on the organization. On these grounds, he first announced the suspension of US funding for the WHO and then the country's withdrawal. A few months later, incumbent US President Joe Biden reversed this decision on the day of his inauguration.
The election for the 47th president of the United States took place on November 5, 2024. In the popular vote, Trump received 51% of the vote, while Democratic candidate Kamala Harris received 47.4% of the vote.
