US President-elect Donald Trump may use the Arctic to end the conflict in Ukraine. This is reported by the publication Responsible Statecraft (RS).

It is noted that Trump can end the conflict with incentives regarding the Arctic to attract the attention of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"Such an option could also prove attractive to Trump, who approaches the world through the prism of a businessman in search of a major deal," the December 20 piece said.

According to the author of the article, the United States could help develop infrastructure and trade routes in the Arctic in exchange for the end of hostilities. At the same time, the initiative will imply the removal of sanctions from the Northern Sea Route and the inclusion of Western investments.

Before that, on December 17, American political scientist Francis Fukuyama suggested that the US President-elect will try to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, but at the expense of Kiev's interests. Thus, the Ukrainians will allegedly agree to cede part of their territory in exchange for NATO membership.

Before that, on December 4, it became known that Trump's team has three plans to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. One of them is the plan of President-elect Keith Kellogg's special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, the second proposal came from Vice President-elect J.D. Vance, and the third was put forward by Richard Grenell, Trump's former acting intelligence chief.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
