The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attacked 12 settlements in Belgorod Region with the help of drones and ammunition overnight. This was reported by regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov on Sunday, December 22.

According to his information, the Belgorod district, Valuysky and Graivoronsky municipal districts, as well as the city of Shebekino were attacked.

"In the Graivoronsky municipal district, four munitions were fired at the villages of Kozinka and Novostroevka-Vtoraya in one shelling and attacks were made by two drones, one of which was shot down by the air defense system. It was reported that at night on December 21, two private houses and outbuildings were damaged as a result of explosive devices dropped from a drone in the villages of Rozhdestvenka and Mokraya Orlovka," Gladkov said in his Telegram-channel.

In Belgorod district, four munitions were fired at the villages of Nikolskoye, Petrovka, Pushkarnoye, Repnoye, Tavrovo and Yasniye Zori in the course of one shelling and six drones attacked, there were no consequences.

In turn, the farm Nizhnie Melnitsy in Valuyskiy District was subjected to artillery fire with three shells and attacks by three UAVs, which were shot down. In addition, one munition was fired at Shebekino. No casualties or damage were recorded in these cases either.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry reported the destruction of 42 AFU drones over Russian regions overnight. In particular, 20 drones were destroyed in the sky over the Orel region, eight each over the Rostov and Bryansk regions, five were eliminated over the Kursk region and one over the territory of the Krasnodar region.

Before that, on December 20, two civilians in Belgorod Region were injured in attacks by Ukrainian drones. In addition, two cars were damaged.

The AFU is trying to strike Russian territories against the background of the special operation in Donbass, the beginning of which was announced on February 24, 2022. The decision was taken due to the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
