A doctor reminded of the benefits of citrus fruits for immunity

Inclusion of citrus fruits in the diet is a reliable way to strengthen immunity. This statement was made on December 22 by Alexandra Fileva, expert physician at the Hemotest laboratory.
According to her, the peculiarity of citrus fruits is the high content of vitamin C, which helps to strengthen immunity, reduce the risk of serious colds, and also helps to fight fatigue.
In addition, the expert noted that citrus fruits are rich in antioxidants that protect cells from free radicals and contribute to maintaining youth and health for all systems and organs. The doctor emphasized that the fruit also contains essential oils, which have a positive effect on the nervous system and help fight stress.
"Essential oils have antiseptic effects and can be useful in the home: they are used to disinfect surfaces, scent the air or even as a natural skin care product. For example, lemon oil helps lighten age spots, and orange oil moisturizes the skin and improves its tone," Filyova told Gazeta.Ru.
The expert noted that for maximum benefit, adults should eat one or two medium-sized citrus fruits, or up to 300-400 g in a salad or smoothie, and children are recommended to give up to 100-200 g, depending on age. She added that sweet fruits (tangerines and oranges) are more suitable for children, while she recommended eating limes and lemons for diabetics.
Filyova also noted that in large quantities, fruits can cause irritation of the gastric mucosa, fermentation in the intestines and allergies. At the same time, she said, citrus fruits are not recommended for people with gastritis, peptic ulcer or hyperacidity, as well as those who take certain medications.
Earlier, November 26, nutritionist Daria Rusanova shared a list of products that strengthen the immune system and protect against acute respiratory viral infections. According to her, you should eat foods containing probiotics (kefir, natural yogurt, sauerkraut, kimchi - Korean sauerkraut, miso, kombucha) and prebiotics (fruits, vegetables, herbs, legumes, mushrooms and whole grain products).
