Russian Railways named the preliminary cause of the train collision in Transbaikalia

The collision of two freight trains in the Transbaikal Territory and the derailment of cars from the rails could have occurred due to a broken wheelset. This is reported in the Telegram-channel of Russian Railways on Sunday, December 22.

"On December 22, 2024 at 7:30 (local time) at Bushuley station of the Transbaikal railroad due to the collision of two freight trains, 24 cars of a freight train derailed from the rails. The preliminary cause is a fracture of the wheelset frame. The company is investigating", - stated in the message.

At the moment, Russian Railways is working headquarters to eliminate the consequences of the accident, which is headed by the first deputy head of the company, Sergei Kobzev. Restoration work at the site is headed by the head of the Transbaikal railroad Vladimir Antonets.

As it is specified in the Telegram-channel of the Federal Passenger Company, trains № 9 Vladivostok - Moscow and № 10 Moscow - Vladivostok are delayed because of the situation at the station Bushuley.

Their passengers are being assisted by train crew workers. They are also provided with meals at Zilovo and Chernyshevsk stations and SMS-newsletters about the trains' movement. Railroad services are doing everything possible to restore communication, the FPC said.

The collision of freight trains with coal on the Bushulei - Zhireken crossing in Chernyshevsky district in the Zabaikalsky region became known earlier in the day. Transport Prosecutor's Office initially reported the derailment of 42 cars. There was no information about the presence of casualties.

After the incident, an inspection was organized, and a criminal case was opened. A recovery train went to the site.
