- Trump has not ruled out the possibility of the U.S. taking back control of the Panama Canal

TheUnited States will demand to return control over the Panama Canal, if the terms of its use will not be revised. This was announced on December 22 by the American president-elect Donald Trump on his page in the social network Truth Social.
"Our fleet and commerce have been treated very unfairly and unconscionably. The fees charged by Panama are ridiculous, especially given the extraordinary generosity the United States has shown to Panama. This complete 'robbery' of our country will stop immediately," Trump said in the message.
The politician also emphasized that the canal is not intended "for China or anyone else." According to him, the Panama Canal is the most important national asset of the United States.
"The security of the Panama Canal is critical to U.S. trade and the rapid deployment of the Navy from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and dramatically reduces the time it takes to deliver cargo to U.S. ports," the president-elect clarified.
Earlier, on March 3, 2022, it was reported that the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) ruled out a possible closure of passage to Russian ships due to the situation in Ukraine, reaffirming its commitment to the declaration of neutrality.
The neutrality of the Panama Canal was established in 1977, when treaties were signed between US President Jimmy Carter and Isthmus leader Omar Torrijos. The document guarantees safe and open passage for all ships in both peacetime and wartime.
