A magnitude 5.3 earthquake has been recorded in South Africa.


An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 has occurred in the Republic of South Africa (RSA). This was reported on December 22 by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center(EMSC).
It is specified that the origin of the earthquake lay at a depth of 10 km. The epicenter was located 101 km west of the settlement Brandvlei, the population of which is about 2.8 thousand people. There was no information about casualties and destructions. No tsunami threat was announced.
Earlier, on December 17, an earthquake off the coast of Vanuatu killed one person. The building housing the French and US embassies was also damaged. The EMSC specified that the earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 occurred at a depth of 43 km at a distance of 25 km from the city of Port Vila.
