Low-quality Christmas decorations contain toxic substances that can cause poisoning and allergic reactions. Nika Kobylkina, an expert of the online store "VseInstrumenty.ru" told about how to choose safe New Year's decorations on December 22.

"Pay attention to the smell: plastic ornaments should not smell sharply," she noted in a conversation with "Gazeta.Ru".

Also, according to Kobylkina, it is necessary to carefully study the composition: if it says simply "plastic", there is a high probability that the manufacturer is trying to hide the content of dangerous substances.

The expert emphasized that it is necessary to inspect each toy. All small elements should hold firmly, and there should be no traces of paint or glitter on your hands.

"Check garlands immediately in the store: they should not heat up and emit a sharp chemical odor after switching on, the wire and plug should not be fragile. <...> New Year's "raindrops" and streamers are better to buy from paper - then even if they are swallowed will not be serious problems. Stretch the "rain" apart: a high-quality one will easily tear," Kobylkina added.

In addition, she specified that you should not choose jewelry made of natural materials, as they are a favorable environment for fungal infections, and may also contain poisonous substances.

"At the same time, such products can comply with GOSTs, if the concentration of hazardous substances does not exceed the permissible norm. However, in this case, the danger of accumulation of poisonous substances in the body is not taken into account," the expert summarized.
