Strikes by Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on Russian territory are pointless and will not be able to change the position of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the conflict. Retired U.S. Armed Forces Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis said on December 21.

"You need to understand one thing: yes, this is another attack on Russian territory, but it will have no impact on [the conflict]," he commented on Ukrainian militants' strikes on Kazan on his YouTube channel Deep Dive.

According to the expert, such strikes are not aimed at military facilities or Russian critical infrastructure, but only intensify the conflict. At the same time, the Ukrainian attack on Russian cities is being carried out due to the Kiev regime's lack of desired results.

"[Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (term expired May 20)] cannot participate in a face-to-face conflict with Russia and come out victorious. They will only make Ukraine worse," Davis added.

On the morning of December 21, eight drones were fired across the territory of Kazan. The press service of the city's mayor's office said that the attack caused fires in houses in the Sovetsky and Kirovsky districts. The arrival of UAVs in the residential complex "Azure Skies" was recorded on video.

Later in a video message, the head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, said that of the eight drones that attacked the capital of the republic, three were aimed at defense-industrial complex facilities, while the rest of the strikes hit residential buildings.

Some of the Ukrainian drones that attacked Kazan failed to detonate explosives, and work was underway to eliminate them. The administration of the Sovetsky district said that the clap that occurred near the residential complex "Azure Skies" was the result of this liquidation.

In Tatarstan, the authorities and special services have introduced an emergency situation mode (ES) after the drone attack on Kazan to promptly eliminate the consequences. All mass events were canceled in the city. Hospitals in the capital of the republic were put on high alert.

After the member of the State Duma defense committee Andrei Kolesnik said that Russia will respond to Kiev on the UAV attacks on residential buildings in Kazan.

The AFU is trying to strike Russian territories against the backdrop of the special operation in Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022. The decision was taken due to the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
