Russia will respond to the Ukrainian Armed Forces' (AFU) drone attacks on Kazan. This was stated by Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma Defense Committee, on December 21.

"We will respond [we will] as always, as we know how to do it. We are not the ones who start it," he emphasized in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.

Kolesnik also noted that the situation in Ukraine is likely to change after the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump.

"[Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky (his term expired on May 20. - Ed.) is very hopeful that the monetary aid will continue. He keeps us all in suspense with these drone attacks. Nevertheless, the steam locomotive is moving forward," the MP added.

On the morning of December 21, eight drones were released on the territory of Kazan. The press service of the city mayor's office reported that the attack caused fires in houses in the Sovetsky and Kirovsky districts. The arrival of UAVs in the residential complex "Azure Skies" was recorded on video.

Later in a video message, the head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, said that of the eight drones that attacked the capital of the republic, three were aimed at defense-industrial complex facilities, while the rest of the strikes hit residential buildings.

Some of the Ukrainian drones that attacked Kazan failed to detonate explosives, and work was underway to eliminate them. The administration of the Sovetsky district said that the clap that occurred near the residential complex "Azure Skies" was the result of this liquidation.

In Tatarstan, the authorities and special services have introduced an emergency situation mode (ES) after the drone attack on Kazan to promptly eliminate the consequences. All mass events were canceled in the city. Hospitals in the capital of the republic were put on high alert.

The AFU is trying to strike Russian territories against the background of the special operation in Donbass, the beginning of which was announced on February 24, 2022. The decision was taken due to the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
