Air defense forces destroyed a missile of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the skies above Kursk Region. This was reported by the government of the region on December 21.

"Ukrainian missile destroyed in the sky of the Kursk region late in the evening. Thanks to the air defense fighters," the regional government said in a Telegram-channel message.

There is no information about casualties and destruction.

Earlier, on December 20, the city of Rylsk was subjected to a massive rocket attack by the AFU. Initially it was reported about six dead as a result of the strike, including one child. Alexander Khinshtein, the region's acting governor, added that ten victims were taken to the Central District Hospital. They received minor injuries and are under the supervision of doctors. Later Khinshtein specified that there is a pregnant woman among them. He noted that Ukrainian militants deliberately targeted peaceful social facilities. Hinshtein also added that the number of dead in the shelling is five people.

The Assumption Cathedral of the XVIII century was damaged in the AFU strike on Rylsk. The Russian Investigative Committee (IC) opened a criminal case under paragraph "b" of part 3 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act").

Images of the aftermath of the shelling were published by Izvestia. They show a crater about 2 meters deep from the explosion of one of the ammunition. The walls of a private house near it collapsed, and the blast wave blew out windows in houses further down the street.

Ukrainian militants attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk Region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the AFU units that invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
