Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova compared Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky (whose term of office expired on May 20) to the former head of Al-Qaeda (the movement is recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia) Osama bin Laden.

"The Kiev regime has shown its terrorist nature before, and now it has no other," Zakharova commented to RIA Novosti on the situation with the Ukrainian Armed Forces' (AFU) drone attack on Kazan.

She said that at the moment the Ukrainian leader himself has turned into the head of a terrorist cell that kills civilians and strikes civilian infrastructure.

"The classic scheme of how the Americans, the British, the Westerners bring such paid people under the guise of some kind of democratizers, and then these kind of people go off into such an extremist terrorist peak, this is not the first time. And so his name is Osama bin Zelensky," Zakharova concluded.

Zakharova called Zelensky bin Laden number two back in October 2022.

On the morning of December 21, eight drones were released on the territory of Kazan. The press service of the city mayor's office reported that the attack caused fires in houses in the Sovetsky and Kirovsky districts. The arrival of UAVs in the residential complex "Azure Skies" was recorded on video.

Later in a video message, the head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, said that of the eight drones that attacked the capital of the republic, three were aimed at defense-industrial complex facilities, while the rest of the strikes hit residential buildings. Some of the Ukrainian drones that attacked Kazan failed to detonate explosives, and work is underway to eliminate them.

In Tatarstan, the authorities and special services have introduced an emergency situation mode (ES) after the drone attack on Kazan to promptly eliminate the consequences. All mass events were canceled in the city. Hospitals in the capital of the republic were put on high alert.

The AFU is trying to strike Russian territories against the background of the special operation in Donbass, the beginning of which was announced on February 24, 2022. The decision was taken due to the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
