Peskov pointed to the dependence of Russia-US relations on Washington's actions

Future relations between Moscow and Washington will depend on further statements and actions of the United States. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Saturday, December 21.
"The US is a country unfriendly to us, and everything will depend, of course, on what further statements will be made, how the attitude towards our country, plans and so on will be manifested," TASS quoted him as saying.
The Russian presidential spokesman, responding to a question about Russian leader Vladimir Putin 's possible congratulation of US President-elect Donald Trump on his upcoming inauguration, reiterated that Washington is not Moscow's ally and its missiles are fired on our country's territory.
Earlier, on December 18, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Russia was ready to consider any proposals to establish relations with the United States. The diplomat noted that this issue "is not of today and tomorrow."
Before that, on December 6, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the Russian Federation and the United States could cooperate for the sake of the universe. The diplomat also added that the Russian President has repeatedly expressed his respect for the American people, the history of the United States, and American achievements in the world.
On November 19, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was open to normalizing relations with the United States, but Washington should take retaliatory actions.
In late August, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said that building good relations between Russia and the United States was the right approach. According to him, "getting along with Russia is good, not bad, it's smart."
