Suspected embezzler of former Russian deputy education minister detained in Moscow

A former deputy minister of education, suspected of multimillion embezzlement of budget funds, was detained in Moscow. This was reported on Saturday, December 21, in the press service of the Interior Ministry.

"Employees of the UEBiPK of the Main Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow together with the Main Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow and in cooperation with the Federal Security Service of Russia detained in one of the capital's airports the former Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation, who was in the federal wanted list," - stated in the message of the department in Telegram-channel.

According to investigators, the attacker and his accomplices (ex-rector of the institute and employees of the training firm) developed a scheme to embezzle budget funds allocated for vocational education. They concluded a fictitious state contract for internships of teaching staff without having carried out these activities and submitted false reports. As a result, more than 54 million rubles were stolen.

A criminal case under part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud") was initiated on this fact.

It is specified that three participants of the crime were also detained and charged.

The investigation continues, other facts of the incident and accomplices are established.

Earlier, December 13, the official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry Irina Volk reported that the Moscow police uncovered a scheme of embezzlement of more than 65 million rubles, allocated for restoration work from budget funds. A criminal case has been opened under part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud"). Two female suspects have been arrested.
