A resident of one of Kazan's housing estates that suffered from an early morning attack by Ukrainian drones told Izvestia on December 21 that a Russian Emergencies Ministry employee working at the scene of the emergency covered his wife and child, who ran out into the street during the evacuation, with his body.

"She was looking for me, standing with the child, and here the drone is already flying. It should have hit the LCD by now. The firefighter takes the child and his wife and, it turns out, covered with his body," - said Gayaz Iskandarov.

The girl, who was saved by the fireman, is only four months old. Now her parents are looking for the hero who saved their daughter. The father added that the first explosion after the drone hit happened when they were sleeping.

"At around 7:50 (coinciding with Moscow time) the siren started ringing. I did not fully understand what happened, I looked out the window and saw that the entire LCD was cordoned off," he specified.

According to Iskandarov, at the exit of the housing estate the man was pulled back by the flow of people, while his wife ran forward, in another direction. He lost sight of her for a while. Only when they found each other at the end of the attack, the woman informed him about the heroism of the rescuer.

Earlier in the day, Tatarstan introduced an emergency situation regime (ES) for the authorities and special services after the drone attack on Kazan. It was specified that these measures are necessary for the rapid elimination of consequences, the special regime and the regional level of response do not apply to the residents of the Republic.

On December 21, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that six AFU drones were destroyed over the territory of Kazan in the morning of that day. The head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov called the attack an attack on civilians.

A total of eight drones were fired over the territory of Kazan. The press service of the city mayor's office reported that the attack resulted in fire in houses in the Sovetsky and Kirovsky districts. The arrival of UAVs in the residential complex "Azure Skies" was recorded on video. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow was outraged by the hypocritical silence of the West after the Ukrainian UAV attacks on Kazan.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are trying to strike Russian territories against the backdrop of the special operation in Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022. The decision was taken due to the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
