The new Syrian authorities have appointed Hassan al-Shibani as head of the Foreign Ministry in the interim government of Assad. About it on December 21 writes the Syrian news agency Reuters with reference to an official statement.

"The General Command announces the appointment of Mr. Assad Hassan al-Shibani as head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the new Syrian government", - stated in the material.

December 18, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed the situation in Syria with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi. The parties pointed to the need to urgently launch a national dialog in the SAR with the participation of all forces. Safadi drew attention to the proximity of the positions of Russia and the Arab world states on this issue.

The situation in Syria escalated as a result of a major attack by armed formations in Aleppo and Idlib, which began on November 28 and led to the Syrian army's retaliatory actions against the militants. Soon representatives of the armed opposition after taking control of Damascus reported the end of President Bashar al-Assad's rule. On December 8, Assad, after negotiations with the opposition, left his post as head of state and left the country for Russia, instructing a peaceful transfer of power.

Syria's national coalition of revolutionary and opposition forces said it was working to form a transitional authority. The country is expected to hold a referendum to give citizens the opportunity to vote on the desired form of government.
