China's Defense Ministry has pointed to increasing hostility in U.S. military strategy

U.S. military strategy is becoming increasingly confrontational and adventurous, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Zhang Xiaogang said on December 21.

"Facts have proven that the U.S. military strategy has become increasingly confrontational, offensive and adventurous. The United States, addicted to war, has become the biggest destroyer of international order and the biggest threat to global security," Xinhua news agency quoted him as commenting on the Pentagon's report on China's military development.

Xiaogang pointed out that Washington uses military superiority to support hegemony, forcibly change regimes and provoke "color revolutions."

As examples, he cited U.S. military actions in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and other states that have killed hundreds of thousands of people and injured or displaced millions more.

According to Xiaogang, the document published by the Pentagon distorts the meaning of Kiev's defense policy, exaggerates the supposed "Chinese military threat" and represents a gross interference in Beijing's affairs. In connection with such interpretations, China expresses its strong protest, emphasized the representative of the country's Defense Ministry.

The Pentagon report in question was published on December 18. It noted that China has significantly built up its nuclear capabilities, increasing the number of nuclear warheads by about 100 over the past year. According to the US Defense Department, Beijing will have more than 1,000 nuclear warheads by 2030 and their number will rapidly increase until 2035.

After the document was made public, Liu Pengyu, spokesman for the Chinese embassy in the US, urged Washington to objectively assess China's strategic intentions rather than publishing reports with "Cold War thinking."
