Orenburg resident sentenced to 19 years for passing data on the Russian Armed Forces to the FBI

Orenburg regional court sentenced a 31-year-old local resident, who passed personal data of the Russian army military to representatives of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), to 19 years in a high-security colony for treason. This was reported in the Public Relations Center (PRC) of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation on December 21.

"A guilty verdict has been issued against a resident of Orenburg born in 1993 for committing crimes under Part 5 of Article 274.1 ("Illegal impact on the critical information infrastructure of the Russian Federation") and Article 275 ("High Treason") of the Criminal Code of Russia," the report says.

It is specified that the man was detained in January 2023. As a result of the verification and investigative actions organized in the course of the investigation, confirmed that he transferred to the US intelligence services personal data of servicemen of the Armed Forces (AF) of the Russian Federation.

The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.

Earlier, on December 17, in Yalta detained a local resident, who passed to the intelligence service of Ukraine information about the location and movement of military equipment of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Crimea. It was reported that a criminal case was opened against the detainee under Article 275.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Cooperation on a confidential basis with a foreign state, international or foreign organization").
