The U.S. federal government is in a shutdown on Saturday, December 21, due to the lack of a decision on passing a temporary government budget bill.

Due to the weekend, the shutdown will remain formal. In this case, if the Senate does not pass the bill and it will not be signed by the current President of the country Joe Biden by Monday, December 23, the federal government will already de facto suspend work.

It is known that the current head of state has already approved the bill.

On the eve of the House of Representatives of the American Congress a few hours before the onset of the shutdown supported the bill on the temporary extension of funding for the federal government. It was specified that in support of the bill members of the House of Representatives were able to get two-thirds of the votes.

On the same day, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson pledged to avoid a shutdown as Republican congressmen tried to find a last-minute solution to the issue of funding the government.

On Thursday, December 19, the U.S. Congress failed to pass a bill to extend funding for the government and raise the national debt ceiling. 174 members of the lower house of Congress were in favor of the document, while 235 opposed it. The bill provides for the extension of funding of the federal government until March 14, 2025 and suspension until January 30, 2027 the ceiling of the national debt of the United States, which in November for the first time exceeded the mark of $ 36 trillion.
