U.S. approves $4.69 billion sale of Abrams tank equipment to Egypt

The US has approved the possible sale of $4.69 billion worth of equipment for Abrams tanks, the Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency(DSCA) reported on December 21.

"The State Department has made a decision approving the possible sale of $4.69 billion worth of Abrams tank repair and support equipment to the Egyptian government," the agency said in a statement.

It is specified that Egypt is an important strategic partner of the US in the Middle East. The contract will be for a period of up to 10 years.

Earlier, December 6, it was reported that the U.S. State Department approved the possible sale of modern guided missiles AIM-120D3 class "air-to-air" and equipment to the Netherlands for up to $807 million.

Prior to that, on December 2, the State Department approved the sale of equipment for MH-60R multirole helicopters to India for the amount of $1.17 billion. It is specified that as part of the deal, the Indian government requested from the United States 30 tactical radio systems, advanced data transmission systems, external fuel tanks, AN/AAS 44C(V) forward-looking systems with infrared guidance, ammunition, logistics services and other types of assistance.
