Current U.S. President Joe Biden has authorized $571 million in military aid to Taiwan, a statement to that effect was published on the White House website on December 20.

"By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and laws of the United States of America, <...> I hereby delegate to the Secretary of State [U.S. Anthony Blinken] the authority <...> to order the use of up to $571 million for defense titles and services of the Department of Defense, as well as military education and training to assist Taiwan," - specified in the publication.

Earlier, on September 30, it became known that Biden approved the allocation of $567 million for military support for Taiwan. The White House then said that this was the last step of the United States to strengthen the armed forces of the island in the context of growing tensions with China.

On September 29, the Taiwanese Armed Forces received from the United States the first batch of land-based Harpoon anti-ship missiles ordered earlier. It was specified that in 2020 the United States and Taiwan signed a contract worth approximately $2.37 billion for the supply of military complexes, vehicles and equipment. Under the terms of the deal, the United States plans to send Taiwan 32 launchers and 128 missiles by 2026, and the full delivery of military weapons is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2028.
