Volkswagen says it will lay off 35,000 workers by 2030

German major automaker Volkswagen will cut 35 thousand workers by 2030. This was reported on December 20 in the press service of the auto concern.
"The agreement implies a socially acceptable reduction of 35 thousand jobs at Volkswagen enterprises in Germany by 2030," - said in the message of the press service.
The announcement was made contrary to a report by the IG Metall union, which was published on its official website on December 2.
"IG Metall succeeded in pushing through a new job guarantee after Volkswagen terminated the previous job guarantee in September. Forced layoffs have been ruled out until the end of 2030," the union said in a statement.
It is specified that in case of non-fulfillment of the agreement, the auto concern will be forced to distribute among its employees € 1 billion. In addition, the union agreed to improve working conditions and increase wages.
Earlier, on December 2, it was reported that in Germany, workers of nine plants of Volkswagen concern, producing cars and components, began a strike, because of which the assembly lines were stopped.
On October 29, employees of Volkswagen and BMW began the first wave of strikes in Germany. The next day, Volkswagen during negotiations with the IG Metall union offered to cut workers' wages by 10% to save jobs. The company said it could not meet the union's demands, which included a 7% wage hike and the reinstatement of collective bargaining agreements.
Before that, on October 28, Volkswagen Group said it was going to close three plants in Germany and cut tens of thousands of employees as part of reorganization and to reduce costs. It was reported that the measure will affect plants in Osnabrück, Dresden and Emden. In the government of Germany, the probable reason for these measures called wrong decisions of the concern's management and called to save as many jobs as possible.
