A military helicopter, which caught fire during exercises, made an emergency landing on the territory of Camp Pendleton base on the coast of Southern California in San Diego County, USA. This was reported on December 20 by a unit of the NBC News television channel with reference to a representative of the Marine Corps.
According to the representative, the aircraft caught fire during a training flight, as a result of which the crew decided to make an emergency landing. Major Natalie Batcheler of the Third Marine Aircraft Wing specified that the fire started aboard the CH-53E Super Stallion based in Miramar, Florida, at about 16:00 local time (December 21, 3:00 Moscow time).
"All four people on board the helicopter were able to safely exit after landing, but were unable to extinguish the fire on their own, after which they requested local services to help extinguish the fire," the publication added.
Earlier, on December 18, it was reported that near the border of the United States and Mexico crashed a helicopter of the Customs and Border Protection Service, the pilot was killed. The helicopter crashed while patrolling the border south of Barrett Lake at about 10:00 (21:00 Moscow time).
