Head of the Department of Dietetics at the Russian Biotechnology University (ROSBIOTECH), Doctor of Medical Sciences Alexei Bereznikov spoke about the benefits of tangerines on December 21.

"Antioxidants contained in tangerines help protect cells from damage and slow down aging. In addition, tangerines contain fiber, potassium and magnesium, which makes them good for digestion and heart," he noted in a conversation with "Gazeta.Ru".

The doctor added that the fruit also contains phytonutrients limonene and hesperidin, which help reduce inflammation and improve blood circulation. And the low calorie content of fruits allows you to eat them during dieting.

According to the expert, a number of useful properties have and the peel of tangerines. It contains essential oils that have a calming effect on the nervous system and improve mood.

However, as Bereznikov emphasized, you should not abuse tangerines. The maximum permissible amount of tangerines per day for adults is 4-5 pieces. This figure is even less for people with allergies to citrus, stomach problems and for those who suffer from ulcers, gastritis or pancreatitis.

"Overeating fruit can lead to unpleasant consequences, such as irritation of the mucous membrane of the stomach, abdominal bloating, diarrhea and even allergic reactions," - specified the doctor.

Earlier, on December 4, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Moscow region gave advice on the choice of quality mandarins. According to experts, the fruit should be orange or orange-red, without light and black spots. The department also warned that if a tangerine is easily squashed with a finger, it indicates that the fruit is spoiled.
