Artificial Christmas trees and Christmas toys should be washed and dried before decorating rooms with them, as they accumulate a lot of dust and other things during the year. Nadezhda Logina, candidate of medical sciences, immunologist-allergologist, told about this in an interview with Radio Sputnik on December 21.

"If an artificial Christmas tree is stored in inappropriate conditions, for example, on the balcony, dirt, dust and even mold accumulate on it during the year. Even if it's a glazed balcony, plant pollen gets there through all sorts of microcracks," she explained.

The doctor also warned that if the Christmas tree is stored on the mezzanine or under the bed, it accumulates dust and household dust mites. It's the same story with Christmas tree toys. And dust and mold, Logina continued, can become agents of allergic reactions.

However, she noted, even in the absence of allergies, it is necessary to wash the Christmas tree, as elementary rules of hygiene require it.

"Before dressing up the Christmas tree, it should be thoroughly washed in the bathroom with a special anti-allergic solution or just water, dry and only then already brought into the room where it will be," - recommended the expert.
