Soldiers of the ZU-23 anti-aircraft system of the Zapad group of troops have destroyed reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the special operation zone. This was reported in the Russian Defense Ministry on December 21.

In the course of fire work, the unit destroyed spy drones of Ukrainian militants "Furia" and "Leleka-100", thus organizing air cover for the positions of Russian units.

"Mostly 'Leleka', 'Furia' drones come in. We determine through binoculars the type of UAV. Accordingly, we aim and work. Everything is simple," said the gunner with the call sign Kazakh.

The air defense units of the "West" group of troops are carrying out tasks to destroy reconnaissance and attack drones of the AFU in a round-the-clock mode. In case of visual detection of drones, anti-aircraft gunners work on them from the available arsenal, taking into account the height, range and type of UAVs.

Earlier, on December 20, servicemen of the artillery crew of the 152-millimeter self-propelled gun "Hyacinth-S" of the group of troops "Vostok" destroyed the control point of the AFU drones. The artillerymen received coordinates from Russian Orlan-30 UAVs, after which they aimed the gun and hit the target, which was located in a forest belt and camouflaged, with rapid fire.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
