Soldiers of the repair battalion of the Zapad group of troops told Izvestiya about their work in the special operation zone in Krasnolimansk.

It is noted that in the repair battalion they come up with different types of tank protection and finalize them based on the tasks.

"In addition to the turret, where the crew is located, the most vulnerable places of the tank are the fuel compartment and the place where ammunition is stored. They are most often hit by FPV drones because it is the easiest way to immobilize the vehicle. Rubber sheets are used to protect the fuel compartment and the chassis. They are strong enough and in principle can protect the main body from collision. And the place where ammunition is stored is covered with ordinary nets: the FPV drone's blade gets here and is immobilized," said Izvestia correspondent Alexander Fedorchak.

Often in the workshops of the battalion conduct experiments, which then take root at the front. For example, for one of the evacuation light armored tractors (MT-LB) made a completely new type of armor.

"The frame was made of pipes, lined with iron. Rubber protects against drones, it better absorbs shrapnel and impacts. People can be inside and on top, so that there is a possibility to take more people. It didn't take us long to come to this: we thought about it, drew it and made it," shared the mechanic-driver of the evacuation group with the call sign Ione.

Thanks to the work of the rembat, Russian equipment has become less vulnerable to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). For example, one of the tanks with the crew's self-assembled anti-drone protection returned after the combat mission without a single damage, despite the fact that it was attacked by a large number of enemy drones.

"It turns out that 13 drones hit us, 15 'birds' fell nearby, and one 'polka' hit us in the rear," the tank commander with the call sign Modnyy specified.

The crew managed to save the fighting vehicle and personnel and destroyed a machine gun point of Ukrainian militants.

Earlier, on October 14, servicemen of the rembat of the Dnieper group of troops told Izvestia about how they restore, improve and hand over to Russian Armed Forces units trophy equipment of the AFU, which is supplied to them by Western countries. The soldiers evacuate the equipment and deliver it to the garages themselves. One of them had to be pulled out for several days, because it was blown up on a mine and had four wheels destroyed.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
