Bulgaria says Glavchev has no right to sign an agreement with Kiev

Bulgarian Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev has no right to sign a security agreement with Ukraine. This was reported to Izvestiya on 20 December by Bulgarian MP Ivan Petkov, a member of the energy committee.
Earlier it became known that Glavchev refused to sign a security agreement with Kiev. Initially, he was supposed to sign the document with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose term of office expired on May 20, at the EU summit. But upon arriving in Brussels, the prime minister said he needed a consultation with parliament. Glavchev cited the 10-year term of the agreement as the reason for the discussion, which is too long.
"First of all, as you said, he is the representative of the technical government, not just the legitimate government of Bulgaria, and he had no right to sign this document," Petkov said.
He specified that there were many "suspicious things" in the security document. The MP added that US President-elect Donald Trump and some leaders of the National Assembly urged Bulgaria not to support Ukraine by signing the document.
"These were people who used to support everywhere and in everything. And now we have a document with a commitment for 10 years ahead. This is very strange," Petkov said.
The MP pointed out that the signing of this document by any European country could lead to a direct conflict with Russia.
"This is a step towards a big conflict, every country that signed this document will come into conflict with Russia," Petkov explained.
Earlier, on December 19, it was reported that the former Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov said that he opposes the signing of a bilateral agreement on security cooperation with Ukraine.
Back in January, it became known that Ukraine was developing security treaties with the USA and a number of other countries. It is reported that the document is to provide security guarantees for Ukraine, as well as gradual integration into the NATO coordinate system through these security treaties.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kiev against the background of Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, the launch of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
