RKN added WhatsApp and Skype to the register of information dissemination organizers

Roskomnadzor has added the messenger WhatsApp (owned by Meta, whose activities are banned in Russia) and video call service Skype to the register of information distribution organizers (ODIs) on the Internet. The corresponding data were published in the register on December 19.

In accordance with the legislation, the organizer of information dissemination is obliged to store data on voice information, text, images, video or other electronic messages of users on the Russian territory for one year from the date of their sending.

Earlier, on December 13, Roskomnadzor restricted access to the messenger Viber on the territory of Russia. This measure was taken due to non-compliance of the company's representatives with the requirements of the Russian legislation, as well as in connection with the posting of illegal information.
