In Magdeburg, a suspect in a hit-and-run attack on a crowd was detained. This was reported on December 20 by the German newspaper Die Welt.

"The alleged perpetrator is in police custody. As it became known, it is a man born in 1974 from Saudi Arabia," - stated in the material of the TV channel.

According to law enforcers, the suspect detained in Magdeburg was not previously known to the German authorities as an Islamist.

It is specified that the suspect rented a car on which he committed a hit-and-run. It was also reported about an unknown object in the back seat of the car, which, according to experts, may contain an explosive device.

About the collision of the car on the crowd in the city of Magdeburg in Germany became known earlier in the day. According to the portal T-Online, as a result of the accident killed 11 people, 60 more were injured. The police launched a large-scale operation and used a helicopter for this purpose. The footage shows many ambulances standing with sirens on. The injured are being treated right on the spot.

Also in the regional government of Saxony-Anhalt called a terrorist attack on a crowd of people at the Christmas market in Magdeburg.

At the same time, Scholz expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of a car collision with a crowd in the German city of Magdeburg. He also thanked the "dedicated rescuers during these anxious hours."

After that, it was reported that the Russian Embassy in Germany was in close contact with German law enforcement agencies to clarify information about the presence of Russian citizens among the victims.
