The regional government of Saxony-Anhalt called a terrorist attack on a crowd of people at the Christmas market in Magdeburg, which killed 11 people and injured 60 others. This was reported on December 20 by MDR television and radio company with reference to the representative of the German government in the state of Saxony-Anhalt Matthias Schuppe.

Schuppe added that the alleged driver of the car was detained. According to eyewitnesses, the car drove into a crowd of citizens who had gathered at the fairground tents near the local town hall.

Magdeburg police said on social network X (former Twitter) that large-scale operations are currently underway at the city's Christmas market. The market itself is closed.

The newspaper Bild, citing the rescue service, specified that the number of injured as a result of the car collision may be from 60 to 80 people. In addition, the publication reported that the police in Magdeburg are searching the cordoned off area of the Christmas fair for explosives.

According to the portal T-Online, as a result of the accident killed 11 people, 60 more were injured. The police launched a large-scale operation and used a helicopter for this purpose. The footage shows many ambulances standing with sirens on. The injured are being treated right on the spot.
