Likhachev spoke about Rosatom's work in the Ecology national project

Within the framework of the finalized national project "Ecology", the state corporation "Rosatom" has done a lot in the field of treatment of the most hazardous industrial waste. The head of the state corporation Alexei Likhachev told about it on December 20.
He said that "Ecology" was aimed at working with wastes of the first and second classes of danger.
"Indeed, for us both a huge challenge was and a great honor to lead in the country all the work related to the elimination of the most malignant, the most risky industrial waste," Likhachev said.
He noted that in this work Rosatom was assisted by the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), the D.I. Mendeleev Russian Chemical Technology University (RCTU) and scientists of the Russian Federation. All of them contributed to the search for original domestic solutions, which are planned to be shared with friendly countries in the future.
The most important task of Rosatom within the framework of the national project "Ecology" was to build a backbone system of its own industrial waste utilization. The corporation has already launched two eco-technoparks, and two more will start operating next year. A total of seven ecological plants will operate in Russia, which will relieve industrial regions of the environmental burden and reduce the level of pollution.
The second part of the work consisted of creating an information system and interacting with businesses. All these activities were conducted openly in the State Duma and the Federation Council, Rosatom interacted with the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RUIE) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and all decisions were discussed and agreed with business.
The third element of the activity was the fight against already accumulated waste - huge areas of landfills where, according to Likhachev, one could find any element of the Mendeleev table. "Rosatom is working in stages to eliminate such large and dangerous facilities as, for example, the Krasny Bor landfill in the Leningrad region and the Baikal pulp and paper mill. In addition, two large urban landfills in Chelyabinsk and Magnitogorsk have been eliminated.
The new national project "Environmental Well-Being", as Likhachev noted, expands all these types of work, and funding is provided for them. In particular, it is planned to reach the full creation of the recycling chain by 2030 and to recycle all incoming waste, and not only the first and second, but also the third class. In addition, Russian President Vladimir Putin has set the task to recycle 53-55% of accumulated waste by the same date. If this is realized, landfills will be transformed. For example, a sports and entertainment complex has been built on the site of the liquidated landfill in Chelyabinsk. In addition, the cleared territories can be used for industrial purposes.
On December 5, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev said that the national project "Ecological Well-Being" is a continuation of the national project "Ecology". The new project is dedicated to solving the tasks that have not been accomplished within five years. In particular, during the implementation of "Ecological Well-Being" it is planned to build a closed-cycle economy to deal with solid municipal waste. The implementation of the "Clean Air" project, which aims to reduce the amount of polluting emissions into the atmosphere of cities, is also laid down.
