Six people were killed in a strike by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on Rylsk in Kursk Region. This was reported on December 20 by Alexander Khinshtein, acting governor of the region.

"According to preliminary data, six people were killed, including one child. Ten victims were taken to the Central District Hospital of Rylsk, among them - a 13-year-old child," he indicated in Telegram-channel.

Hinshtein added that they received minor injuries and are under the supervision of doctors. He also said that emergency services continue to work in the city, and specialists are assessing the damage. The Kursk region's acting governor expressed confidence that the customers and perpetrators would be punished.

"Our army and law enforcement agencies will do everything necessary for this," he emphasized.

In turn, the Prosecutor's Office of the Kursk region in its Telegram-channel reported that it opened a hotline for prompt response to citizens' appeals.

Earlier in the day, the town of Rylsk was subjected to a massive rocket attack by the AFU. Hinstein noted that Ukrainian fighters deliberately targeted peaceful social facilities.

As a result, the buildings of the House of Culture, physical training and recreation center, pedagogical college, school, fire station, other social facilities, as well as private houses were damaged. A criminal case was opened under the article on terrorist attack.

Ukrainian militants attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk Region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The liquidation of the AFU units that invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
