The agreement on the Romanian Consulate General in Rostov-on-Don has been terminated. About it on Friday, December 20, reported on the official Internet portal of legal information.

"December 15, 2024 terminated the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of Romania on the opening of the Consulate General of Romania in Rostov-on-Don, concluded in the form of an exchange of notes from August 29, 2005 and September 22, 2005", - stated in the document.

The Consulate General stopped its work on October 9. The decision was made back in December 2023 after unfriendly actions of the Romanian authorities.

Before that, in June 2023, the Romanian Foreign Ministry demanded that 51 employees of the Russian Embassy leave the country within 30 days. It was about 21 diplomats and 30 employees of technical-administrative staff. Thus, only 11 Russian diplomats and 29 employees were to remain in the country. The Russian Foreign Ministry then emphasized that Moscow would respond to Romania's decision to reduce the size of the Russian embassy in Bucharest.

Russian Ambassador to Romania Valery Kuzmin then also called the decision to reduce the staff of the Russian embassy a NATO edict. This gesture is also aimed at undermining interstate relations, he added.
