A doctor has warned of the risks of polyps in the bowel

The emergence of intestinal polyps is associated with a disruption in the process of cell division - mutations arise in them, which change the natural life cycle of cells. Suna Isakova, a medical oncologist at the SberZdorovye medical company, told Izvestia on December 23 about polyps in the intestine.

"It is believed that these changes can occur as age increases, in chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn's disease, as well as in a diet low in fiber and excessive in fat," Isakova explained.

According to her, some types of intestinal polyps can develop into malignant tumors, so if they were detected on colonoscopy, they should be removed. In exceptional cases, polyps can cause excessive mucus production, which can cause the loss of an important trace element for the body - potassium.

According to the specialist, intestinal bleeding is the most common symptom in the presence of polyps in the intestine. It can be detected by stool analysis for hidden blood or noticed by the patient himself during acts of defecation. In rare situations, abdominal pain and stool problems may also occur.

"Most often polyps are detected during preventive colonoscopy. It should be performed for people over 45 years of age once every 10 years. People whose closest relatives have a tumor of the colon, colonoscopy should start 10 years earlier than the age of the relative in which he was diagnosed with the disease," - summed up Isakova.

Earlier, on November 30, Olga Evlasheva, a doctor-gastroenterologist of the medical company "SberZdorovye" told "Izvestia" about the impact of GI problems on skin diseases. According to her, the development of Dühring's dermatitis herpetiformis is caused by an immune reaction similar to that which occurs in the intestine. When gluten is consumed, the body begins to produce antibodies, which are defense cells to the barrier tissue of the body that covers the skin.
