Day of the Power Engineer in Russia - the history of the holiday on December 22
The Day of the Power Engineer has its roots in the Soviet period. It was officially established in 1966 by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. The date for it was not chosen by chance - on December 22, 1920 at the VIII Congress of Soviets the plan of the State Commission for Electrification of the country was adopted.
This document became the basis for the development of the domestic energy industry, gave a powerful impetus to industrialization, laying the foundations of modern electrical networks.
In the Soviet Union, the holiday was celebrated annually until the late 1980s. After the collapse of the USSR, it lost its official status, but was restored in 2015 by decree of the Russian President.
Traditions of the Day of the Power Engineer in Russia in 2024
On this day, Russian companies in the energy sector hold solemn meetings and festive events, where the results of work for the year are summarized. The best employees receive certificates and bonuses. The Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation and regional authorities also recognize outstanding employees: they present awards, confer titles for services in the industry.
Within the framework of the Power Engineer's Day specialized conferences are often organized to discuss topical issues and prospects of the industry development, introduction of new technologies, methods of energy saving, energy efficiency improvement, which promotes exchange of experience and establishment of contacts between representatives of different regions and organizations.
Also on this day, excursions to power plants and other infrastructure facilities are organized for students of specialized universities and schoolchildren, during which young people can get acquainted with the inner workings of enterprises. Such events help attract new specialists to the energy sector.
