An expert gave advice on how to choose and safely install garland

When choosing a Christmas garland, one should pay attention to the presence of quality certificates, junior researcher of the laboratory of theoretical and applied nanotechnology of the State University of Education Nikita Parashchuk told Izvestia on December 20. He gave some advice to Russians on the purchase and safe installation of such decorative ornaments.

"The choice of garland, as well as its installation, requires compliance with a number of rules to ensure the safety and reliability of its operation. First of all, attention should be paid to the presence of quality certificates that confirm the compliance of the product with safety standards. On the package should be indicated technical parameters: voltage, power and protection class", - said the expert.

For use indoors are suitable products with a class IP20, and for the street - not below IP44. According to him, it is better to choose light-emitting diode garlands (LED), as they are economical, durable and practically do not heat up.

"Before installation, it is necessary to inspect the garland for damage, check the integrity of the wires and make sure there is no pungent smell of plastic, which can indicate poor quality. When connecting use only serviceable sockets with grounding and avoid overloading the network due to the connection of several garlands through one extension cord," - advised Parashchuk.

He specified that to fix the garland is recommended to use plastic holders or duct tape, as metal elements can create a risk of short circuit. Garlands should be placed away from flammable materials such as paper or dry branches.

"It is important to remember that garlands should not be left on unattended, especially overnight or when leaving the house. Compliance with these recommendations allows you to create a festive atmosphere and avoid potential risks", - concluded Parashchuk.
