The state prosecution requested 7 years and 5 months in prison for the singer Charlot

The state prosecution requested to sentence singer Eduard Charlot (listed as an extremist and terrorist in the Russian Federation) to seven years and five months in a penal colony. This was reported by the source of "Izvestia" on Friday, December 20.

In October, the defendant's arrest was extended until March 24, 2025. At the court hearing, he confirmed that he was present at the videos published on the Web in 2023, aimed at desecrating the military glory of the Russian Federation, while stating that he "did not recognize, does not recognize and does not admit guilt."

Charlot was detained at Pulkovo airport on November 22, 2023, where he flew from Yerevan. The artist was escorted to Samara. On November 30, three criminal cases were opened against him - two episodes on the rehabilitation of Nazism (part 4 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and one on insulting the feelings of believers (Article 148 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The reason for Charlot's arrest were insulting videos he posted on Instagram (banned in Russia, owned by Meta Corporation, recognized as extremist in Russia).

By decision of the Kirovsky district court of Samara, Charlot was arrested on December 2. According to the investigation, the man committed a crime against the foundations of the constitutional system, human rights and freedoms and insulted the feelings of believers.

On July 23 of the current year singer Charlot was put on the list of terrorists and extremists.
