The child, who suffered as a result of a utility accident in Frunzensky district of St. Petersburg, may need a skin transplant operation. This was told to "Izvestia" on December 20 by the boy's mother.

According to her, the 12-year-old victim and his seven-year-old brother on the way to school stepped in a puddle of hot water, which spilled due to a burst heating main. The children felt normal at first, but after school the mother discovered burns on their feet.

"I asked them: "Why didn't they call right away, why didn't they come home right away?" And the eldest child tells me: "The water was flowing down, we didn't even have a chance to go back home." We crossed the road, he says, and there was water pouring down, and we thought it was better to go to school. It was only when I got home that I found out that they had been burned," the woman said.

The 12-year-old child is in the burn unit. His younger brother suffered less and remained on home treatment.

The pipe burst in Frunzensky district became known on December 19. As a result of the incident, three local residents, including two minors, received burns of varying severity. A criminal case has been initiated over the incident.
