Russian President Vladimir Putin has spoken out about the high-tech duel of "Oreshnik" with Western air defense systems (air defense systems) in the context of a question posed to him at the "Results of the Year". Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"It is very important to talk about these statements by the president in the context of the question he was asked. It was not his initiative. He was asked to explain possible vulnerabilities, and so the president, as he usually does, spoke in sufficient detail about how the missile works," the presidential spokesman explained.

Peskov also called for attention in this context to Putin's earlier words about responding to strikes on Russian territory, which have been repeatedly carried out.

On December 19, Putin said during the "Results of the Year" that the enemy has no chance to shoot down the Russian medium-range ballistic missile "Oreshnik". Thus, the head of state commented on the opinion of some foreign experts that Western air defenses allegedly can do it at the launch stage.

Thus, the Russian leader suggested to these experts to organize a technological experiment - a kind of "high-tech duel of the XXI century" - in the course of which an object to be hit will be identified, where air defense and missile defense forces will concentrate their work, and the Russian military will strike there with the Oreshnik, after which the result will be found out.

Later that day, Putin said that it was not necessarily possible to hold a duel with Western air defenses in Kiev.
